My name is Peter Nixey and I’m the founder of Webkitchen.
I started this company because I felt that it was irrationally difficult to create and maintain a website and I suspected I could make it considerably easier.
The technology to do this has been around several years but for one reason or another, it’s only ever been available in a much higher price bracket than most businesses can justify.
The aim of Webkitchen is to redress this issue. Using the exellent Wordpress software we put people in control of their own website. They don’t need to know any HTML and they don’t need to ring their web designer each time they need an update.
Passing on what we learn
As well as making things easier, we try hard to make them better and we work hard to keep abreast of the latest technologies emerging from Silicon Valley.
Doing this lets us integrate powerful tools such as Google Maps or Feedburner mailing lists in a way that empowers our customers without requiring extra fees or training.
Alternatives
By making setup and hosting one-click-easy, we aim to provide as high a value service as we can. Nonetheless we know that there are many people who have to work within a tighter budget still.

You’ll have to spend a little time understanding how it works and how to install and extend it but Wordpress is free to use and there are thousands of plugins and themes available for it.

www.moonfruit.com - Moonfruit offer incredibly powerful packages with no upfront fees. Ad-free versions cost between six and sixteen pounds a month and can include e-commerce.
The sites look good and you can update them yourself. Their only drawback is that they are built entirely in Flash. This means that they take a long time to download and they’re effectively invisible to Google (you won’t appear on any search engines).
If all your customers have broadband and being on search engines doesn’t bother you then Moonfruit is an excellent solution. We know a number of people who use them and are very pleased with the results.
